THE HISTORY OF INGLESES BEACH

There are many historical records about the Ingleses Beach. It is known that she carries this name due to the wreck of a British vessel in the region, probably between 1683 and 1737. These dates were established by analysis of found objects, like a Gunther strip with the inscription "1683", ceramic vessels ( where he kept drinking water), and other nautical instruments. This wreck was discovered in 1989 when a diver found a ceramic pot, which soon became the first clue to historians and archaeologists.

 

By analyzing the conditions under which the rudder of the boat has been found, it is suggested that there was a fire on board. Some bones were unearthed, which belonged to men aged 16 to 20 years (average age of sailors at the time).

 

The vessel is buried in the sand at depths ranging from one to eight meters, over two meters up by water. It lies approximately fifty meters from the beach.

 

The survivors settled in the area of ​​Ingleses Beach, where practiced agriculture to ensure survival. They began to emerge some sugar and flour mills. Also he raised cattle and chickens. It was a typical Azorean region, with intense fishing activity, where it came to collect more than 80,000 mullets in one bid.

 

However, the region has grown and has become a tourist beach, with large numbers of visitors from different regions of Brazil and the world. It is also the residential beach area of ​​Florianopolis, where the largest number of people living in the neighborhood all year.

The Ingleses Beach is one of the busiest destinations on the island, not only in summer but all year long. It has an infrastructure services ranging from the beach to a small shopping center. Bars and restaurants with varied cuisine guarantee the enjoyment of families and young people at night, while during the day the beach is the preferred location.

 

The beach of Ingleses is one of the main destinations in South America tourists. Therefore, many establishments offer bilingual services, especially the bureaux de change, Internet cafes and telephone.

 

The vast expanse of beach allows, to the south, the sea is calm and ideal for taking children and the elderly and to the north, the waves are strong and conducive to surfing. In summer, the water temperature is warm and pleasant, suitable for bathing and practicing water sports. Besides surfing, they are also practiced sports such as sandboarding, stand up paddle, kite surfing, pilates, yoga and other outdoor activities.
